Proprietors Jennifer and Terry Hoage focus primarily on the production of Rhone-style wines from their sustainably farmed estate in the rolling hills of the acclaimed Willow Creek District of Paso Robles, California. Just off Highway 46, the special climate and unique calcareous terroir of TH Estate Wines produces exceptional fruit that is forward and focused. The Hoages’ traditional, minimalist approach to winemaking and sustainable practices inspired Robert Parker to write:

“This is the kind of wine the Central Coast should be producing more.”

The winery and tasting room, constructed in 2004 by Terry, his parents and uncle, is a 3,000 square foot steel-framed building faced with 150 year old barn wood, salvaged from Iowa. Though small, the winery building boasts a full production facility along with two intimate tasting rooms. The historic barn wood is used throughout to compliment the authenticity of our tasting experiences.

The first two vintages of TH wines (2002 and 2003) were made by Justin Smith of SAXUM Vineyards, Terry’s personal wine mentor early on. Under Justin’s tutelage, Terry and Jenn learned the importance of continued experimentation with different techniques when striving to produce the best wine possible. They have continued his minimalist philosophy in winemaking while incorporating their unique knowledge and experience to produce premium wines in their own style.

In 2017, Phil LaMontagne joined the Hoages as Lead Winemaker and over the last few years Jennifer and Terry have moved to consulting winemakers as we pass forward the good will of Justin and Heather Smith by mentoring our wine/vineyard production team. Phil has deservedly garnered numerous and continued high accolades from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, Jeb Dunnuck, Vinous, Wine Enthusiast and Doug Wilder, and continues to produce wines in a fruit forward style and with minimal intervention. Our wines are aged in French oak barrels and puncheons. As a result, the wines deliver intense fruit flavors and showcase the Hoage’s dedication to traditional winemaking practices. They strive to make terroir-driven, fruit-forward wines that are approachable young, but with the ability to cellar for years.

The TH Estate Wines portfolio features two distinct brands that represent different stylistic approaches to winemaking. TH Vineyards consists of the classic lineup of estate red and white Rhone-style wines that the Hoages began crafting in 2002. The 3000 case production includes both cuvee and varietal bottlings of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, Grenache Blanc, Picpoul Blanc, and Roussanne.

In 2016, Jennifer Hoage introduced a new label called DECROUX, focusing on Pinot Noir sourced from cooler Central Coast climates. Named in homage to her instructor Etienne Decroux, the French father of corporeal mime, these wines exhibit finesse and nuance, an ethereal and feminine counterpart to TH Vineyards.
